OUR PASSION CAN LEAD US TO FIND WAYS

The month of September is recognized as the National Science Club Month. It is being celebrated annually. This year, we celebrate the NSCM with the theme, “Wavefront: Accentuating Potentials, Activating Technological Advancements”. For me, the theme means that we must discover our own inner potential so that we can contribute to technological advancements in our own little ways. Our passion for something can lead us to find ways to make our work more efficient. Contributing to more efficiency is a technology in itself because it helps us make our life easier.

Technology now a days is an important aspect of our daily lives. Technology is constantly improving its applications and the way we communicate with the rest of the world. It is almost impossible to believe what the technology has achieved. The best example for this is the fact that the man with the name of Neil Armstrong became the first human to step into the surface of the moon on July, 1969. An estimated of 500 million people worldwide watched this event, the largest television audience for a live broadcast at that time. It is incredible just to think what advances on technology can achieve. If all that happen in 1969, imagine the big change that technology has suffered until now 2014. Until today I personally am amaze.

Our personal life is highly dependent on the technology that people have developed. Technology has advanced with years and it has changed the way we purchase products , the way we live , the way we communicate , the way we travel , the way we learn and so many changes have been brought about by these continuous technological advancements. As people’s demands and life style change, the demand for advancing the type of technology we use is high. Almost every thing we use has been innovated to better standards, a good example is the ”Mobile Phone ”, the type of mobile phones we had in 1995 are no longer on demand in this century, the demands of mobile phone users have changed greatly, and this has resulted in the advancement of mobile phone technologies.

With the rapid pace of technological advancements, our world is in the process of constant innovations that change people’s lives. Old traditions are replaced by the new ones. The same is with skills: some of the previous skills are no longer needed or values. Adolescents in particular are under enormous impact of new technologies since technology has already become part and parcel of their everyday life, routine, and habits. This modernization aspect is hard to evaluate and clearly state whether it is good or bad as technology remains a controversial aspect and a popular topic of discussions. All things considered, people realize this problem and admit their contribution to its existence.

If we discover our potentials as early as now, we will know more about ourselves such as our strengths and our weaknesses. If we know these, we can capitalize on our own strengths and improve our weaknesses so that we can contribute to our society. Who knows, we might be the next scientist, architect, engineer, doctor, teacher or officer out there. Regardless of what occupation we might have, if we accentuate and capitalize on our potentials, we can surely make a difference to make this world a better place - just like how technology does it.
